The MYP programme (unlike the Diploma programme) places considerable emphasis on the concept of human ingenuity (this is the modern (non-Latin) "translation" of what used to be known as homo faber – or man the tool maker). It seems to me that the periodic table is almost the perfect example of human ingenuity in Chemistry.
