Phrase

A phrase is a unit of language made up of anything from an individual word to several words acting together, but smaller than a sentence. Phrases take their identity from their head word; that is, the most important word in the phrase. For example, the phrase the (article/determiner) black (adjective) cat (noun) is an example of a noun phrase.
