Quizlet, notelet, leaflet, pamphlet

Tuesday 12 August 2014

During the first 10 minutes of every lesson I give my students what they have come to call a testlet. A testlet is a small test, like a piglet is a small pig, a notelet a small note a leaflet a small leaf and a pamphlet............ By this time any students who are not native English speakers will be wondering what I am going on about.

Every year I teach many students who have only just started to learn English, so its not just definitions of quantities that they need to learn but the whole language of physics in English and that's where these quizlets come in. quizlet.com is a website that enables you to construct flashcards to aid the learning of terms and definitions. The flashcards can be read then turned into matching pair type games. I have started to make one for each lesson to help my English learners understand what I am taking about in class.  Subscribers will find them on the individual lesson plans. I asked one of my students if he thought these would have been helpful when he arrived into my class not able to speak English. They got his seal of approval. Here is an example. I forgot to mention the really neat thing, you can embed them into web pages.
