1 week until November exams - a HUGE thank you to all of you!

By Vivien Jack
November 2021 exams start next week - yes, in October(!) The first of the scheduled exams is Business Management Paper 1 Pre-release case study (Megamin Mining) on 25th October 2021.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you. Sometimes our students forget to thank us for our hard work, sometimes it’s admin who forget to say thank you until after the exams (or in some cases even at all) and sometimes it’s just nice to be acknowledged for the behind-the-scenes work that we do as Business Management teachers. So I would like to thank you for:
  • The hours of thinking and planning lessons that are engaging for students, especially with online learning challenges for the past two years.
  • Seeking new approaches and resources for teaching and learning BM every year.
  • Taking the time to bring contemporary business news and issues into your lessons.
  • Taking time to understand the BM syllabus and course requirements for new and experienced teachers. CUEGIS! IAs! EEs! Exams! COVID changes to exams! Oh my! - it always feels like there’s something new to learn each year.
  • Taking time to interact with this group and attend PD workshops so you can use what you learned to help your students and other colleagues.
  • The formative and summative assessment feedback you give to your students (which can be laborious at times, but so instrumental in their learning).
  • Your care and attention in differentiating teaching and learning activities to facilitate individual learning needs.
  • Your care and attention to the academic and pastoral welfare of your students as they navigate the challenges of the IB Diploma and being a teenager on the brink of adulthood. (Don't know about you but I would never want to go through this again. Adulting wins for me any day!)
  • The hours spent guiding and giving feedback to students on their IAs.
  • Your supervision of EE BM students (we seem to be one of the most popular EE subjects and always have a full load of EE students to supervise).
I’m sure I’ve forgotten some other behind-the-scenes work that we do. Let me know in the comments if there’s other things I’ve missed so I can thank you for it.
On a personal note, thank you Paul Hoang for giving me the opportunity to write the N21 case study PowerPoint pack for L7E. Here's to M22!
All the very best to you and your students next week!
