December updates and notices

Dear Subscribers

It's already December - where did 2021 go?!

At the time of writing, we welcomed our 1,137th IB teacher and 8,143rd student to the InThinking Business Management community across 100 countries. The stats show that you're spending an average of 4 hours 24 mins on the website. The website content exceeds 608,000 words (that's about 152 Extended Essay!), and will be growing exponentially as preparations are underway for content being added for the new syllabus (first teaching in August 2022).

Website updates

Most of the past month has been spent on these two areas of development on the InThinking Business Management website:

  1. Smart quizzes - all sections of the syllabus (from Unit 1.1 to Unit 5.8) now have smart quizzes embedded. You can activate these quizzes for your students at the appropriate time for review and revision purposes. In total, 665 questions, covering the entire syllabus, have been added to the website. The quizzes are auto-marked for your convenience. You can access these by hovering your mouse cursor over the relevant Unit headings from the homepage.

  2. Content for the new BM syllabus - I have started updating the back-end of the website in preparation for the new syllabus (first teach Aug 2022), starting with the new Business Management Toolkit. This consists of a relatively large number of tools, theories, and techniques for the new course; some of which are carried over from the current syllabus but about half of these are new. I will make the content go live shortly after the official release of the new syllabus (likely to be February 2022). Stay tuned by checking the updates here.

Business Management textbook, IBID Press, 5th edition

I will be writing the new edition of the textbook for IBID Press, following the official release of the new syllabus. As Oxford University Press (OUP) has a partnership agreement with the IB (its publishing partner), the OUP text will be the first one available on the market. The planned publication date is March/April 2022. Hodder Education will also have a new textbook released written by two co-authors. I have completed the Business Management Toolkit Workbook which will complement the contents in the Hodder Education textbook.

My textbook publisher, IBID Press, does not have a partnership agreement with the IB, so our textbook will come out a little later. As the saying goes, "The early bird catches the worm", but in the alternate TOK world, the early worms are the one that gets eaten alive!

  • Unit 4.1 - Market share exam practice questions and review quiz added here.

  • Starter quiz - A third Business Management trivia quiz, which you can use as a lesson starter or plenary to add real-world contexts, has been added here.
