Student Paper 1 revision pages

We have started to publish a new series of pages aimed at students and designed to support them in revising and preparing for Paper 1.

With no Paper 2 again this year, students have just the one examination to prepare for in Language A courses, an examination that they need to prepare very well for as it is now weighted more as a component.  There is a myth amongst students that they cannot revise for Paper 1 as it is an unseen examination.  However, while there is no content to revise, it is important for students to realise that they can go into the paper very well prepared by revising the literary forms and techniques that they are likely to encounter in the extracts, as well as the terminology they should use in their responses.

The more practice students have with analysing a range of unseen literary extracts, the more confident and skilled they will become in developing responses to any given text.  These pages are each focused on one of the literary forms, some in a general way (e.g. the non-fiction page) and others with a more specific focus (e.g. narrative techniques in prose fiction). Further pages on the other literary forms, and other aspects of these forms, will be added in the coming weeks.

These pages are also designed to help teachers who may be running short of different ways to help students prepare for this one examination this year.  Each page includes a quiz with targeted questions based on short extracts, followed by some short answer written tasks and a past paper extract from the given genre.   These pages all allow for direct student access.

If you would like to see a revision page based on any specific literary focus to help students prepare for paper 1 then please let us know in the comments.
