Many novelists create such rich and engaging characters that it is easy for us to think of them as real. After all, most of us read novels as a form of escapism and sometimes the characters we find there might be more appealing and interesting than the people we encounter in our daily lives (although, from experience, I"d strongly advise against ever telling someone that"s the reason you"re so engrossed in a book)....
