The most basic form of story, the commonest and most natural, is the anecdote. We all tell each other stories all of the time ... "Nice day at the office, dear?" "Not bad. But that Robinson of Supplies came to see me again, same old thing, going on about the number of paperclips I use ... and I said to him, I said ..." Now, such stories can be well told or badly told, but that"s another story.
