The new Guide recommends that teachers should "break stereotypes". This clumsy phrase presumably means that we should challenge crude oversimplifications based on ignorance and prejudice. As I have said elsewhere (see Intercultural dimension ), "...we should employ accurate concepts of a culture, founded on good evidence, rather than caricatures, founded on little or no evidence". Nobody, surely, would disagree with...
