Welcome to the Inthinking Geography Site
Hello and welcome to the InThinking Geography site. I hope that you enjoy using the site and can ses lots ways it can help you make sense of the course and help your students succeed in IB Geography. As of teacher of IB Geography at the British School of Brussels I use the site on a daily basis as the main platform for delivering the course. Each component of the course has been broken down to a lesson-by-lesson page with each page featuring starter activities, data based resources, interactive sites, videos and in total over a thousand printable PDF worksheets and handouts. In addition there are quizzes, a qbank to make your own quizzes, model essay and assessment guidance and model exam papers. One quick tip for using the site as platform in the classroom is to make use of the presentation mode tab on the right of a page. The screen shot below shows you where to find it.
When in presentation mode the same graph would look like this:
I use it mainly when I want them to read text or small graphs from the site. Often my students have the site open in class with their one-to-one devices.
If you have a look around you'll find that there are loads of resources and activities on each page, often too many for the time allocated. This is purposeful, so that you have the flexibility to plan your lessons as you want; integrating the site into your lessons as you choose. You can use the extra activities as further reading and extension. Use the assignments tool to direct students directly to the activities you want them to do.
In addition to the lesson resources, there is a lot of assessment material, with model responses and model essays, including different essay frames and planning sheets There is also a number of sample exam papers with IB based mark schemes.
To support the IA you find really detailed student and teacher guidance, complete with exemplars and model presentation techniques, as well as everything you need for integrating the core of TOK and the Extended Essay into your lessons.
The following video is a short screencast tour of the site to show the resources, how they are organized and to help you navigate it. The site has been written with the geography teacher and student in mind. As a full time teacher I have made the site to use as a lesson resource.
I hope that you enjoy the site and if you have any questions on teaching IB Geography, any helpful suggestions or encounter any problems such as dead links then please don't hesitate to get in touch by email and I will get back to you.
