My role as pedagogical leader

What does it mean to be an IB pedagogical leader?

The IB Coordinators Handbook (2020) makes it clear that the programme coordinator is at heart a pedagogical leader. They are responsible for the "design, development and fostering of effective kearning and teaching" of the IB programme.

This section of the website explores what it means for IB programme coordinators to be pedagogical leaders by looking at the various aspects of their role.

Key to this is an understanding of what it means to be an IB teacher: "Content analysis of IB documentation was undertaken to identify the teaching approaches, beliefs and tools that the IB promotes. Of the codes that emerged from the analysis, the IB teaching approach emphasis was on making connections, inquiry, and student-centeredness. The IB teaching beliefs included the words global, cultural, whole student and sense of social responsibility." (New study explores what it means to be an IB teacher, IB, 2013)
