# HL Translate, Reflect

'Focus your attention on the change in the Coordinates and the Algebra'

Change the line of reflection to overlap the green Smiley's over the top of the pink Smiley's.

Note down the coordinates of the corner of each smiley's mouth, and compare the algebraic function of the black smiley and the target, pink, smiley.

Can you work out the pattern between:

(i) How the coordinate changes following the reflction you've used

(ii) How the algebra of the function changes

AHL2.8 Transformations of functions

### Description

All students can do each activity or, to make the resource time effective and as an additional check of students understanding, the class can be split into groups and different groups given a different transformation to work on. They then prepare a presentation on their findings to give to the rest of the class - the "hive mind" works together to produce knowledge and understanding faster!

Student presentations - each group can then present to the other, either at the end of the lesson, or the next lesson, depending on their progression through the task

The "practice" page is a "self-checker" which provides an instant, visual feedback of whether or not the entered functions are correct, and if not, how do they need to be adapted: a further translation left/right? up/down? a reflection? etc.
