IB Maths Studies: Mock Exam

"A paper students have not seen before"This page offers a whole exam paper that students will not have seen before. As I teacher I find I can never have enough practice of exam style questions and it is getting easier and easier for students to do find past papers online. Of course, it takes the IB about 2 years to write an exam paper from start to finish. There is lots of reviewing and editing along the way to make...

Hi Jim,
Will you be posting anew mock for this year? Thanks

Jim Noble 28 January 2018 - 16:17

Hi Noha,

Actually I do have one on the go - need to add some solutions..... I'll keep you posted

Thank you so much! Please, try to post it soon even without answers. I would love to use it for my mocks at the beginning of March.

Jim, thanks for the mock, I used it and am marking them now. Good to have something that's not available to students. More and more I'm finding kids using past papers worked out and explained via video online
I believe I found two errors on the paper 2 markscheme: Q3b has a "7" in the calculation, but I believe it should be 3.5. That error follows into c as well. Also, Q6c has a "2y" in the Volume calculation, and the height is actually y. Also, Q5 doesn't have point allocations, so I made up my own.
If I'm wrong about the above, please let me know. Thanks, Peter

Also on paper 2 Q5, I got the expected value would be 5.04, but I put as my answer not enough data because we want a minimum of 100.

Lesley Twiss 5 February 2018 - 17:51

By the way, I love this site. Excellent job, Jim!

Jim Noble 9 February 2018 - 13:51

Glad its useful Lesley - On the mock question - Are you talking about part a)? If so, I think that there would be 2 of the 6 categories with expected frequencies less than 5..... In practice I don't think this will actually come up in an exam, but is obviously important for IAs.. sorry if I have misunderstood or got something wrong, Jim
