The problem with fossil fuels is that it takes millions of years to turn the dead animals and plants into oil and coal so it is being used up faster than it is being produced. Wood and vegetable oil on the other hand can be grown as fast as they are used, provided they are not used to quickly, they are said to be renewable. Nuclear fuel is not renewable but there is still a lot of it left if you include reprocessing...
