Hi John,

It is amazing that you mention "Schema theory is a model of memory". When I see the question, what I would think of are Multi-store model and working memory model. I wonder is that okay to use schema theory as a model of memory? I would take it as a model that could explain the reconstructive of memory (as well as other phenomenon) but not a model of memory.

I have checked and students may use schema theory as a model of memory. Schema theory does explain encoding and retrieval, so in that way, it serves as a model. It does not explain storage as clearly as the MSM, but it does address distortion in a way that neither the WMM or the MSM actually do.

Does this mean we can use schema theory and MMS as the two models of memory? In this way we don't need to teach WMM? Many thanks. Ana

Dear Ana

As I wrote in response to your question on another page, we are waiting for a clarification from the IB. I have been told that this is ok, but the latest "announcement" on IB Answers has put this into doubt. I will post when we know the answer.

Dear John,

Many thanks for your help. I understand ... we have to wait and see.

Did I hear or see somewhere that we have to teach Baddeley and Hitch and not Levels of Processing? I know MSM is still in, but is LoP out?
Thanks.

Dear Barbara

Please read the thread above. My comments to KIS International are still true as of this morning.
