IB Visual Arts: CAF (Planning and Progress)

The IB has introduced a coursework authentification form for all DP subjects. On this form the teacher records three interactions with each student at various stages of thier coursework.why? This is a chance for the teacher to scrutinize the students work, make sure it is authentic. It also creates a more formal way to keep a check on student progress, to insure that they are on course and know what is expected. The main...

Is there a word limit or character limit? When I uploaded to the pdf, I lost most of what I wrote about the student.

Heather McReynolds 21 March 2017 - 18:14

Comments neednt be lengthy and it should upload easily, but if you are concerned write your comments in a word doc and paste to PDF

Catherine Tuttle 21 March 2017 - 18:57

Ok to clarify, even if I cant see the full comment on the pdf, it will appear in full to the examiner?

Rhonda Laurie 22 March 2017 - 11:12

Hi Heather,
Thanks for such an informative site! I am a bit confused with this CAF, as IB states that it is more for authenticity purposes (but also ensures regular check ins with students). I get this for the CS, but as the Ex is all of the student's own work (development of ideas already shown in PP), does this mean that we are commenting on their EX planning and set up, and their CR? I can't see how the authenticity of this would be in question, as the EX and CR is very site and student specific. Is the purpose for the Ex comments to ensure and validate that the exhibition was planned and set up completely by the student, not the teacher, parents or others? (I can't imagine how that would happen). What am I missing?
Thanks for your clear interpretations!

Heather McReynolds 25 March 2017 - 13:21

Hi Rhonda, you are still authenticating the students Ex work, no one else can do that except you! and of course it is also a sort of progress check in, check off...

Hi Heather,
THanks for the info above. Does the VACAF form have to be uploaded with the internal assessments? It goes before all the other things does it? Or is there a later deadline for it? Thanks for clarifying this, Sarah

Heather McReynolds 26 March 2017 - 20:19

yes Sarah, with the IA samples

Renante Sison 27 March 2017 - 10:04

Hi Heather just for clarifications on inquiry, action and reflection. Is it similar to like writing a progress report and you then discuss it with the students?

Heather McReynolds 27 March 2017 - 19:08

Hi Renante, from 2017 the form is filled out only by the teacher- yes similar to a progress report.

Kika Coles 5 April 2017 - 09:36

Hi Heather! I hope you are well
A couple of things about the form.
1) The examiners can only see the whole text (the option to scroll down in each text box) only if they download the forms not as preview. Do the examiners know this?
2) Names of candidates are required on this form how does the anonymity rule apply here?
Thank you in advance

Heather McReynolds 5 April 2017 - 19:43

Kika, examiners dont look at this form, its for academic honesty purposes

Maya Gilmour 7 April 2017 - 14:55

Hi Heather,
I have submitted all predicted grades, internal assessment grades and everything for the Exhibition....Can I upload everything else - the CS and PP by the 30th April? My students are currently on holiday and some have not submitted their PP etc. Thanks, Maya

Heather McReynolds 7 April 2017 - 15:57

Hi Maya, by April 20th is fine.

Carine Arayssi 9 April 2017 - 21:18

Dear Heather,
In the VACAF, Section B relating to the Exhibition, we have to talk about the actual set up of the exhibition in the 3 phases or the development of the students' work?
Do you have any samples?
Thank you

Heather McReynolds 11 April 2017 - 11:48

its sufficient to discuss the development of the work in all three stages

Marita Redondo 10 April 2017 - 02:41

Hi Heather,
I'm uploading my VACAF forms and have scanned both pages (one has the comments and the other has the student information and asks that the teacher verify all is correct). IBIS only allows me to upload one document, so what about page 2 of the VACAF?

Heather McReynolds 11 April 2017 - 11:49

make it a pdf?

Izabela Jadach 10 April 2017 - 12:28

Hi Heather, do we have to sign this form or is it enough to type teacher's name? in first case i would have to print and scan before sending.

Heather McReynolds 11 April 2017 - 11:50

The form is for authenticating student work across all subject areas so ask your DP coordinator what is the norm in other subjects, ;)

andrew watson 25 September 2017 - 15:12

Hi Heather
Is the 6VACAF form mostly completed in year 2?

Heather McReynolds 26 September 2017 - 21:07

Hi Andrew, yes, the first meeting is in year one, the other two likely in year 2, in the end you complete it when you do your IA
