Save time, abandon bad ideas

Tuesday 3 June 2014

This morning my 6 labPro interfaces arrived from the states, now I need to buy some more sensors. The package was well wrapped with bubble wrap which gave me an idea about a way to demonstrate radioactive decay to blind students. When you squeeze bubble wrap the bubbles burst, is the rate at which they burst proportional to the number of remaining bubbles? One might think so. Much to the annoyance of my dog I experimented by recording the bubbles popping as I squeezed a piece of bubble wrap, the result is shown. Well the number of pops per second does seem to decrease with time however it's quite difficult to squeeze in a continuos way and there really aren't enough pops to analyse. My conclusion is that this is not a good way to model radioactive decay. Ben (my dog) can come back into the room now.
