"All dark and comfortless."This final scene of Act 3 is one of the most famous, and certainly the most memorable - in all of Shakespeare"s plays, in the main because of its stomach-churning onstage violence. There is plenty to explore in terms of character, action and theme, but the scene also opens up discussion about the reasons Shakespeare might have taken to show this violence, rather than have it happen off stage.
