Sometimes I wonder

Monday 28 August 2017

Amalie and I have often wondered how you get circularly polarized light. Actually I have often wondered Amalie is proably a first time wonderer. Wondering about polarisation that is, she probably wonders a lot about other things as does Pam who is always spotting interesting physics to post on facebook.

It doesn't make sense, right? If polarization is the wave going in one plane how can a spiraling wave be polarized? So I looked up in Hyperphysics and found out that it's the superposition of two out of phase planes of polarization. I still didn't get it so built a simulation in GeoGebra. Got it at last.
