A recent article by the BBC looked at how calorie counts on menus may prompt healthy choices. The news article reports on a study by Dumanovsky et al which assessed the impact of fast food restaurants adding calorie labeling to menu items on the choices that customers made.
Having the students read the abstract and compare it to the news article is an interesting media lesson. The title of the news article in this case is much more optimistic about the success of this program than the abstract's conclusions indicate. The students may also want to do more research to see if there is any other support for this health promotion strategy. Here is one example of a study that could be used.
