Jiaying CS HL

This Comparative Study presents a thorough analysis of 3 contemporary artworks by artists Damien Hirst, Rachel Whiteread and Anne Veronica Janssen, the common thread being visualizing a moment in time, whether it be frozen or fluid. As a HL student she relates her own work to all three of these artworks through materials, presentation and concepts.

The CS was awarded 37 points for a mark of 7. Thank you to Jiaying Wu and her teacher Jiajuan Zhou at Shanghai Weiyu International School for contacting me and sharing her student's work.

Clarification of cultural contexts requirement

An interesting question was raised in the comments section by a teacher pointing out that this example has two contemporary art works by British artists and one by a Belgian artist. Is this acceptable for addressing the criterion Cultural Significance (C) ?

The answer is, as long as at least one of the works is from a different cultural background from the other two, and that need not be another continent or era, it is sufficient to meet the requirements.
