Short cut to give students access to a page
Quick way to give direct access to students and set a task
Introduction
The site now has a feature which enables you to quickly give (or take away) student access for those pages over which you have control as to whether or not they are accessible by students. These pages are essentially those that contain a quiz, multiple choice test or short answer questions. Using this quick facility you can choose whether you simply want to give them direct access or whether you wish to set the page as an assignment.
Those of you that have already set up and created groups for your students will know that there are effectively three different type of page on this site.
1. The page is for teachers only and students cannot have access.
2. The teacher determines if and when students can have access to the page.
3. All students have permanent access to the page.
This is essentially a website for teachers so many of the pages are only accessible to teachers. These pages are all marked on the left hand side as such:
However, I think it is good to give students as much access to the chemistry content (but not the teaching content) as possible, so all the pages apart from those containing quiz, multiple choice questions or short answer questions in Complete course for students are direct access. However you may wish to keep them from seeing some pages before you give them out as a test or for homework - these are usually the pages that contain questions together with any accompanying pages with the worked answers. These pages come under type 2 above and are marked on the left hand side with 'Student access tools".
Previously the only way you could give access to these Type 2 pages was to go into student access for each group and determine which pages you wished to give students access to. This method still works but it does involve several steps ('clicks'). There is now a much easier and faster way. Once you are on the relevant page click on the "Student access tools" button.
You will see that this opens up to give you several options:
You can now either go direct to the student access dashboard or you can give direct instructions for this page to any one of your selected groups. If you want to set it as a task then tick the first box (the square), this will then take you into the task options. If you want to give them direct access unlock the padlock (or if you are on a 'Direct student access' page and you want to remove direct student access, lock the padlock) You can use the third icon to send the page as a link if you wish. If you use the fourth icon (the eye) will first need to click either the 'set as a task' button or 'unlock padlock' button in order to see the page as a student otherwise you will get a notice saying you do not have access.
