The thing about impressions is that they are personal - they are constructed by individuals, from individual viewpoints, and with individual values. Evocative description, accordingly, needs to concentrate on who is perceiving what, and to express that sense of subjective thought. The most usual viewpoint is that of the author - "I was there and this is what I experienced and felt" - and the reader should be seduced...
