How to create an ATL toolkit

Why have an ATL Toolkit?

An ATL toolkit serves two key functions: (a) it creates a consistent school culture around teaching and learning - by culture I mean it's our way of doing things; and (b) it provides staff with practical resources to help improve learning for the students.

Creating consistency of practice is important for students. As a school do you have an agreed and consistent understanding of what makes teaching and learning effective? Do you have an agreed and consistent understanding of what assessment or differentiation is? Do you have an agreed approach to implementing an inquiry based approach to teaching?

As pedagogical leaders we have a responsibility of both resourcing colleagues with practical tools and facilitating the collaborative sharing of existing practice among staff.

This page provides you with a checklist of principles to apply in designing the toolkit and a suggested menu of what could be in the toolkit.
